Title: The Name Of The LORD
Post by: Asahel24601 on September 29, 2013, 10:47:44 PM
Does the Name of the LORD activate on special initiative?

The Name of The Lord: Fortress: Set this fortress aside. If you have initiative, you may interrupt the battle and place your Hero on this fortress. Hero is protected from effect. Each time you rescue a Lost Soul, return one Hero to your territory. This fortress is protected from discard.

Is the hero still protected from effect when it returns from the fortress?

The hero would still be protected until the end of the Battle Phase, right?

Considering the hero is only released upon the rescue of a ls, unless you used SoG at the beginning of the battle phase the phase would end before much could be played.

Here's one of the reasons it would be useful to know how the protection interacts:

Resurrection (Priests): "Interrupt one good Fortress in your territory or set-aside area. Select a Hero from that Fortress and place in your territory, hand, or battle."

The Name of the Lord: "Set this fortress aside. If you have initiative, you may interrupt the battle and place your Hero on this fortress. Hero is protected from effect. Each time you rescue a Lost Soul, return one Hero to your territory. This fortress is protected from discard."

I know we don't rule by "intent", but I feel like if we rule that the protection lingers into battle, then the card may need errata to clarify that the protection was designed to work while inside The Name of the LORD: "The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe" - Proverbs 18:10 NIV

+1  If an play as / errata is necessary to clarify that, then it's probably a good idea.

The protection would not linger into battle because Resurrection interrupts the protection. What I would not want is for new players to think that a card like Great Image would discard a hero coming out of Name of the Lord.

Does the Name of the LORD activate on special initiative?

Just a small thing to add for clarity, but it would only work during Special Initiative caused by something in battle, since it only interrupts the battle.  If a Magic Charms or Unholy Writ are popped from territory, a Herod's Dungeon is used, or similar not-in-battle effects cause the Special Initiative, then The Name of the Lord cannot be used, because it does not interrupt the effect causing removal.

"Hero" is obviously specifying the hero that was put into the fortress, but it continues targeting the hero, not conditional on it being in the fortress. I know the intention was to be while it remains, like it is on every single other fortress like that, but as it is currently worded, I don't see how it plays like that.
