TGT questions
« on: September 07, 2009, 09:38:37 AM »

Three questions:

1) Is TGT's ability dynamic or static? (TGT: "If opponent has a Redeemed Soul, then Salome, Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Peter, John, and Mary the Mother of James ignore all evil brigades that do not have at least two Characters in play.") For example, if my opponent attacks with a TGT hero while I have a single redeemed soul, could I play FA on that soul so I now have no redeemed souls and am now no longer ignored? (I can't think of a game situation where this would be a smart play yet, but I'm sure someone else can.)

2) Does Unknown Nation as an artifact work with TGT active? (Unknown Nation:Gold Curse-"If opponent’s Hero is in battle, you may discard this card to search draw pile for a human Evil Character and add it to battle. Cannot be interrupted.") If so, could you use it to bring a second EC of a brigade you have in play into battle and thus no longer be ignored?

3) Basic question, just for clarification: Since TGT says "characters in play," the ECs of all opponents also count toward this, correct?

1. Yes, the SA is dynamic, since it is an "if-then" statement.

2. I believe that this does not work. Ignored characters cannot "be added" to battle. It would be different if you used an "exchange" card, for instance, but "add to battle" is definitely out. Basically the second character would have to be brought in first, then TGT would no longer be ignoring. However, the ignoring stops the second one from coming in.

3. Correct.

So how would Unknown Nation work in this instance? Could it not be used, or would the EC get kicked out of battle in the territory (which would allow an end-around on TGT, allowing the OTHER EC into battle)? The ability "cannot be interrupted" and it comes from an artifact in the case presented. Is this just one of those insanely weird situations that somehow didn't come up in playtesting? I really have no idea on this one.

I believe the general ruling is that ignored characters cannot be dragged into battle by a card effect and are returned to or left in their territory. But what about a card pulled from the deck? Does it go back into the deck, or to the territory?

Unknown Nation would only work for a evil brigade with at least 2 evil characters already in play.

If you do not have two evil characters already in play, then you cannot use the ability at all.

Essentially, the card would not be able to be pulled from the deck in the first place.

Right. Since Unknown Nation adds directly to battle, then you can't search and use an EC from a brigade with fewer than two EC's in play. Philistine Outpost and The Gates of Hell are different, as you add the EC's to territory first, so as long as you already had one EC of the brigade you are searching for (Black or Orange) then you can add the new one to your territory and block.

The ability "cannot be interrupted" and it comes from an artifact in the case presented.

Although it cannot be interrupted, there are game rules that simply don't allow it. This is one of those cases. Unknown Nation cannot be used in this scenario.

Just for reference, other examples would be:

1. A cannot be negated discard ability can still not target someone who is protected.
2. A cannot be negated band can still not allow duplicate characters to stay in battle together.

Thanks. That was my general impression. To picture this in my mind, the "ignore" ability in play works in a way like a "protect" ability on the FoB.

Side question about Unknown Nation: I activate Unknown Nation. My opponent has a card in effect that limits the type/size/color etc. of EC that can be put into play (say, Miriam ignoring Gold). It turns out that, dummy that I am, I have no EC that can be used (I'm playing an all-Egyptian defense, for instance). The ECs would then stay in the deck rather than going out and getting kicked back into my territory, correct?

I would then have to bang my head against the table for being so stupid as to waste UN, also correct? What is the required number of head-bangs in this instance? It must be somewhat less that using FA on yourself because you forgot about your opponent's GOYS, and I believe that is seven.

I don't think it requires any head-bangs, but perhaps some frustrated sighs. And yes in case you were wondering, if you discard it to search, and can't block with any EC's in your deck, you're out of luck. You can pay a cost without gettin the benefit, which is what would be happening in this case.
