Title: Temple Artifacts
Post by: dermo4christ on June 05, 2017, 09:41:14 PM
With the new RoJ set, are the Heavenly Temple artifacts considered Temple Artifacts as referred to in the Temple Priests ability?

Temple Priests: "Negate neutral cards, except Temple Artifacts. If a Temple Artifact is active, protect neutral cards from evil cards. Cannot be prevented."

Temple Artifacts is defined in the REG and only refers to cards that depict items that are "ordained by God as a permanent fixture in the Tabernacle or Temple and found in that specific house of the Lord."

As such Heavenly Temple Artifacts would be considered a completely unique set of cards and would not work with Temple Priests' ability.

Well, the REG continues to say:
Quote
All “Temple Artifacts” are Solomon’s Temple artifacts (except Heavenly Temple Artifacts).

So Temple Artifacts are those that were either in Solomon's Temple or Heavenly Temple.  And the sentence about temple being a general reference probably needs Heavenly Temple added.

Aggie, that line was intended to indicate that artifacts like Sea of Glass and Book of Life could *not* be activated on Solomon's Temple as they're not 'Temple Artifacts' but 'Heavenly Temple' is there a way we can make that more clear?

For artifacts:
Herod's Temple is a subset of Solomon's Temple
Zerubabbel's Temple is a subset of Solomon's Temple
Tabernacle is a subset of Solomon's Temple
Solomon's Temple is Temple

Heavenly Temple is a different set of artifacts, with one overlapping (Ark)

Based on the discussion on parentheses in abilities, the (except Heavenly Temple Artifacts) modifies Solomon's Temple artifacts, removing Ark.  Which is wrong.  If it modifies "All Temple Artifacts", all temple artifacts except Heavenly Temple are Solomon's Temple, including both lists.  Which is also apparently wrong.  But there's a good chance my grammar is off - the second option doesn't make much sense - if it was both, it should say Temple Artifacts are either Solomon's Temple or Heavenly Temple.

I think the exception is unnecessary and just clouds the issue.  The sentence immediately after (the exception) also mentioning Heavenly Temple implies it's a subset of Temple as well.

It might be easier to just mention the earthly temples in the 2nd paragraph and add a 3rd with the Heavenly Temple part, clarifying that it's a separate list.

Honestly I think it would have been better then to call them "Heavenly Artifacts". It would clear up the confusion as no Artifacts that work with the Heavenly Temple are technically "Temple Artifacts" and then just errata Heavenly Temple's Identifier to say "May hold a Heavenly Artifact or a Temple Artifact"
