Title: Teh Slavyness
Post by: michael/michaelssword on January 30, 2009, 12:51:22 PM
do you have to search and get a Evil Character from deck to put Amelekites Slave in opponents LoB

The Amalekites' Slave

Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Gold/Brown • Ability: 4 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: If blocking, you may place this card in opponent's Land of Bondage to search your deck for a human Evil Character and add it to the battle. • Attributes: Male Egyptian • Identifiers: OT Male Human, Egypt • Verse: I Samuel 30:13 • Availability: Rock of Ages (Set 17)

No, you put it in your Land of Bondage to do those other things. Even if there is no human EC in the deck (or even no deck to search), he can enslave himself.

+1

If there is a deck to search you would need to search it though, correct?  And if that deck contains a human EC you'd have to add it to battle, right?

That's my assumption since it doesn't say "may" anywhere in the ability.

Hey,

Actually there is a may in the ability of The Amalekites' Slave, but I believe the may in a Cost/Benefit ability applies to the ability jointly so if you choose to do the cost you have to try to do the benefit (which differs from compound abilities - ala Reach of Desperation - where the may applies separately to each part).

So if you choose to capture the character you must search and if you find a human evil character you must add it to battle, but since the capture is the cost the capture will still work even if you are unable to search (don't have a draw pile left) or don't find a human evil character in your search.

Tschow,

Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly

Look, you keep saying that you could have won, but I had Burial pretty much all game, and I would have played it before you attacked with FSP, and even if I didn't, I still had mountains of defense!
