Tabitha (EC)

Tabitha reads: "If Tabitha is discarded by an opponent, you may..."

Does this mean that she has to be discarded by a "discard" ability for her special ability to work?

Or, does her ability also work if she is discarded from battle (by losing by the numbers)?

Thank you

I think she's discarded by whichever player should carry out the discard, so she doesn't trigger if discarded by the numbers. Similar to how "each opponent must discard a Hero" won't trigger her.

That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure. Can someone else confirm please?

Thanks

It’s discard abilities. The opponent has to intentionally discard her by an ability. An opponent doesn’t cause a discard by winning by the numbers; the holder discards the hero by game rule once he concedes the battle.

The discard is still being caused by an opponent's ability though. If your Heroes were protected from discard by opponent my understanding is that they would be protected from "each opponent must discard a Hero" since it's an opponent's ability. Seems inconsistent for it not to count as being discarded by an opponent.

I don't remember the ruling on JT and forced draws - do you get to draw off an opponent's Generous Widow/Mayhem/etc. if you have JT down?

I don't like cards that look for a specific opponent performing an action (as opposed to using an ability) because it leads to these questions. The rules lawyer part of me wants it one way, the desire for simpler ruling (if not simpler rules) wants it another way.

"Each opponent discards a hero" would trigger Tabitha, for the same reason that Wall of Protection won't let you present a hero from territory when your heroes in battle are blocked by Goliath.  Goliath's ability is actually what "Presents" a hero, even though Goliath's opponent gets to choose which hero is presented.

J-Tower protects against forced draw since a draw ability targets the top card of the deck.
Fortress Alstad
Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Wall is a good example of an established ruling on this type of scenario.

AFAIK (and according to ORCID), JT is a restrict, not a protect. The same logic can still apply, but I can see both sides better.

JT (Ability):
No opponent may remove a card from holder's draw pile. Draw pile may still be searched and/or shuffled.

JT (Play-As):
Restrict opponents from removing cards from your deck.
