There are no weapons in battle. I put the selected lost soul on top and withdraw. Does my Emperor get experience credit?

allows you to play a unique hero, when you already have one, is that allowed as long as you discard one?

On the first, yes, you get credit as long as one of those LS is the one they selected. He stopped the rescue attempt, and that is what gives the EC the experience. No Soul = Credit (if he lives ;)).
On the second, currently...it is technically up the the host of the tournament. The status quo is "yes", but it is under debate on the Elder's side. They will return with a ruling.

I'm hoping (and expecting) they'll return with a ruling on number 2 before the month of April, so we have a ruling to go on for ROOT.
