Pontius Pilate

Hey,

Pontius Pilate: If blocking, look at opponent’s hand and select one good card and one evil card. Opponent must discard one of them. May be used once per game.

If my opponent has a dual alignment card in their hand can I select it as both the good and evil card forcing them to discard that specific card?

Tschow,

Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly

The ability seems to be referencing multiple cards, which leads me to believe you have to choose 2 distinctly different cards, even if one of those cards meets both of the criteria.

Hey,

What if all cards in the hand are good?

What if all cards in the hand are good except one Dual Alignment card?

What if all cards in the hand are neutral except for one Dual Alignment card?

In the first case, it would be do as much as you can. You choose the good card, and they have to discard it (that did actually come up once in a game I was in).

In the second case, I would say you could choose the dual alignment card as the good card to force them to discard it.

In the last case, you can choose the dual card as either the good or evil card, and force them to discard it.

All of these are relatively rare situations (the last one being very unlikely) so it doesn't matter in a majority of cases, but I also don't see any logical argument to the contrary with the established principle of DAMAYC.

I agree with Jordan's assessment.

I've also seen it come up before where a player only had one alignment to choose.

Hey,

Would it make any difference if all of the cards were evil except for the dual alignment enhancement?

That's actually a good question. The way the ability reads, it could be interpreted that you have to choose the good card first...I would probably rule it that way as well. So you'd have to choose the dual card as the good card, then choose a separate evil card. But I'm not 100% sure.

I would agree if it read "choose one good then one evil" but it says "one good and one evil" and I don't read that as specifying an order in which they must be chosen, but rather just an order they were listed in the ability.
Just one more thing...
