Ok if I make a rescue attempt with a King David and band Asahel into battle and choose a royal evil character do they enter battle and David ignores them or does that win the battle by preventing the evil character from entering at all?

When using a Choose the Blocker ability, you can select applicable targets. If you're ignoring someone, you simply can't target them, so it's not an automatic win.
