Title: Special Initiative vs Saph
Post by: Captain Kirk on July 21, 2013, 04:28:36 PM
When Saph blocks with one of the new spears and removes the rescuing hero from battle, can my opponent play two negates to stop it? Special initiative would grant me the chance to play a negate, but if my negate is prevented can I play the first negate for no effect and then another negate to target the spear?

I think I can't play one for no effect as I can only play negates that activate.

From REG on special initiative:
Quote
When you are losing the battle by removal, you are granted special initiative to play an Enhancement that will interrupt or negate the card that is causing your charact’s removal.

Your right you can't play a negate by the same logic you cannot play Reach after Hamans Plot.

Precisely, you cannot play any card that wouldn't actually negate or interrupt the ability.  The card you play must therefore be CBP or CBN, which doesn't exist in the Sealed decks (as many players have found out to their dismay/delight in tournaments of late).

It is a little bit different logic than not being able to play Reach after Plot, but the result is the same.

Redoubter is correct.
