Can you play the Son of God to win your own lost soul? I used to play this way but I heard that it might have changed

Not any more. you must rescue an opponent's lost soul.

When you play the Son of God and or New Jerusalem who gets to choose the lost souls that are won you or your opponent?

When you play Son of God and New Jerusalem, you get to choose which Lost Souls are rescued (keep in mind they must be your opponent's LS, you cannot rescue your own).
