Does CoM negate hero special abilities while they're in an opponent's territory (i.e. CM'ing Men of Judah with CoM up to get around his numbers decrease)?

Confusion of Mind
Type: Curse • Brigade: Pale Green • Ability: 0 / 6 • Class: None • Special Ability: Negate all special abilities on opponents’ Heroes. An opponent may discard two good Enhancements (or a good Dominant) from hand to discard this card. Cannot be negated. • Identifiers: OT • Verse: Deuteronomy 28:28 • Availability: Priests booster packs (Rare)

Uhm, Yes but if you cm'd men of judah in terr they would die because abilites are only active in battle.

If you mean that activating CoM would negate his being alive, then I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way...but I'm not positive. :-\ I would think that he would be 12/12 the next time he entered battle, but would no longer have his SA. CMing MoJ in territory, however, will always work.

RR's explanation is what you were looking for. Just to elaborate, you can discard Men of Judah when they are in territory even without CoM active. All character special abilities are inactive outside of battle unless they specify otherwise (i.e. "until discarded" or "while this character remains in play").

in battle though isn't the decreasing part a identifier?

Not that I am aware of. You might be thinking of poisons and diseases on the old cards, which was clarifying text.

Men of Judah has been given a special ability that lets it survive battles a little longer, not unlike the whole idea of an army losing some of its members but still being able to fight.

+1.  CoM does negate hero's' abilities in territory, but it doesn't matter with MoJ.

I think Tsavong means that if he's beaten Men of Judah before, can he use CoM to negate their survival ability to kill them?

Personally, I'd say that the decrease ability completes and MoJ goes back to territory. After that, CoM would not negate that survival ability or decrease ability to discard them, but it would allow them to be discarded after battle if they got beaten again.

The fact that Men of Judah already had a past decrease does not change the effect stated earlier. The "each time" in its SA still has to be reactivated in each battle. It is not an "until discarded" or "while it remains in play" ability. If CoM is active, Men of Judah can be permanently discarded in battle. If Men of Judah is in territory, then it can be permanently discarded by any SA, even if it had decreased on a previous turn.

I made up a new question in my mind that he didn't ask, but I answered anyway. I think you misunderstood my answer, since you didn't get to hear the question. here it is.

If I beat MoJ and they get sent to their territory, can I later activate CoM to kill them? What I mean is, will CoM negate their previous decrease and survival?

CoM's negation would be the thing in question causing the discard, not any other outside card like CM.

Special Abilities completed on a previous turn cannot be negated.

Hey,

Special Abilities completed on a previous turn cannot be negated.

Even more so, special abilities completed on a previous phase cannot be negated.

Oh, that I did not know. I was always under the impression that his SA, once activated, lasted past the end of battle, but now that you mention it, it makes sense that it wouldn't without that last phrase. Thanks, YMT. :D

This game has an endless learning curve, and I feel bad for hosts who have to judge games. :P
