While this hero, would not work when he became a captured hero.

On top of that, I believe there is a general rule that no special abilities on cards in LoR are ever active, unless they specifically say so (with Anti-Burial and GoYS the only examples I can think of).

Are place cards discarded from a card if it goes to the Land of Redemption?

Yes. I know that is a rule in the REG, though I'm not sure exactly where. The only cards that should ever be in the LoR are Redeemed Souls (Lost Souls and captured characters) and Guardian of Your Souls.
