if I use Philistine outpost and discard it to search discard pile for a generic Philistine. Does that identifier line have to say generic Philistine (ex phili priests)  or can it just say Philistine (ex Phili armor bearer )

It has to be a generic philistine.  Not all cards that are generic will say so specifically on their card, but you can find a list in the REG (in Glossary of Terms, under Generic Cards).

Philistine Armor Bearer is generic, as are some other Philistines (like Philistine Garrison and Philistine Priests), but you can look in that listing to determine whether they are or not.

Also, note that you do not have to discard Outpost to use it, because you can discard it "or an evil card from deck" to do the search.  That means evil enhancements, evil characters, evil forts or doms (don't do the last part generally...), etc.  The most common use is to discard Philistine Armor Bearer from your deck, search your discard pile for it, then use it to go to your deck for another Philistine.  When it goes to discard for real, you pull it back out by discarding any evil card in deck (or even the Philistine you wanted to get out of deck, so that you can pull it back out with Armor Bearer).  Fun combos with it.

I ask one question and he answers it plus an amazing strategy. Gotta love the message boards.

Based on the wording of your question, I had a feeling you didn't know about the designed combo there.  If you weren't around the game when certain cards were made, or have someone show you the strategies, it is very easy to miss the combos there.

One good place to start would be the Strategies and Combos board or the Deck-Building boards, and search for the specific card or theme you are using or curious about.

If you can't find an answer, or a card just doesn't seem to have a good enough use, just ask how it fits in :)  Some old cards have no real use in the current meta, but someone can help you learn that too ;)
