Enhancements that reduce toughness till end of battle

One that I can think of is Hunger, Black Brigade, Reduce toughness of all of opponent's heros by 6.  If result is /0 or less, discard hero.  There are many others, some hero and some evil character, that do something similar.  A brown one was played against me last night, and I want to make sure I understand this correctly.

1)  Is the affected character ALWAYS immediately discarded if they drop to /0 or less, or only if the card specificies this?  If not during battle, would they be discarded at the turn, but still be allowed to rescue the lost soul?
2)  Is it based on what the toughness currently is in the battle, or the base value on the card minus other reductions (like Plagued with Diseases)?  For example, if my 2/2 hero is up to 6/6 in the battle because I have played two 2/2 enhancements on him, is the EE subtracing from the 6 or the original 2?
3)  How do weapon class enhancements affect the above scenario?  Is it based off base + weapon values, or just the base?
4)  How do set-aside enhancements affect this?  For example, do I get the benefit of the 6/6 from Chatisement of the Lord promo, or is it going off the base value?
5)  How do artifacts, like Elijah's Mantle and Crown of Thorns, affect these enhancements, if at all?

Only at the end of battle, during the discard phase. Yes, if he is poisoned then that would count towards his numbers, therefore making a 6/6 hero 6/4. But enhancements and weapons don't apply.3)  How do weapon class enhancements affect the above scenario?  Is it based off base + weapon values, or just the base?
Once again, weapons don't count.

Set asides count. So if a six six hero was set aside with chastisement, then he is now 12/12, and hunger would not kill him.

That's one in interesting... I've never thought about that. Although I do believe that if you have a 6/6 hero, with elijah's mantle, then he will not die with hunger.

I think I got those right... feel free to correct me, I might have gotten the artifact one wrong.  :)

1. Anyone below */0 stays alive in battle, but dies in their territory after the battle. NOTE: It MUST say "till end of turn"... "till end of battle" will not kill the hero.

2. It is based on the numbers on the hero, since enhancements dont grant them numbers in their territory.

3. See above.

4. Set asides give permanent changes to the hero's abilities.

5. If Plagued with Diseases can kill a */2 or */3 hero, I see no reason why Elijahs Mantle would not keep the hero alive.

Don't weapons go toward the overall numbers of the character?  So if a */6 hero has a */1 weapon on in territory, the decrease of 6/6 wouldn't kill him, right?  I only think this because of Widow.  I always thought that if the weapon on a guy put him over */8, he couldn't enter battle even if the numbers of the hero wasn't over.  Isn't this the same idea?  Or is it different?  (Or am I agreeing with you and I'm just misunderstanding?  :P )

Weapons for what you are talking about do not increase the character's numbers.  They function like enhancements in that the numbers are separate.

I don't think that is correct.  I thought that the discard happens at the END of the battle phase (when characters are normally discarded who lose by numbers), not AFTER the battle phase.
