Not if human was still in main battle.  No SI against the nom nom.

Though it still could be negated during the side battle.  Just no SI (think that was the question?).

The unknown is who opposes Lions in the side battle? Is it the original blocker? Then he gets SI. Is it someone all together new leaving the blocker in the main battle? Then no SI for the original blocker.

Basically, what happens in Vegas a side battle stays in Vegas that side battle.  Abilities that complete in a side battle are basically CBI whenever they remove all opposing characters in the main battle, since special initiative won't be granted to those characters.  Unless your opponent finds a way to negate them in the side battle.
