Side Battle Headaches

We had a few side battle issues at our tournament today, so looking to see how they should have been ruled.

I block a rescue attempt and play Joseph's Brother's Scheme to make the rescuing Hero fight Abraham + Isaac and topdeck Joseph's Brother's Scheme (Angel at Shur was in territory).  My opponent plays Abe's Servant.  This negates Isaac, at least, but does it also cascade negate Scheme, or is it not in play to be interrupted, so not prevented?

"In battle" just refers to the current battle, correct?  So Grapes can't really be played in a side battle?

Joseph's Brothers' Scheme - Select two human Heroes in play to fight each other.  The loser is placed in holder's Land of Bondage and is treated as a Lost Soul.
Abraham - Negate opponent’s neutral cards. Search deck for a Genesis 12-24 Hero. May band to a Genesis 12-24 Hero. Cannot be negated.
Isaac - If an angel is in play, you may topdeck an evil card or protect Isaac from capture and discard abilities. May band to Rebekah.
Abraham's Servant to Ur - All special abilities except banding on characters and enhancements, except this one, are negated.  Battle is determined by the numbers.
Grapes of Wrath - Discard an evil card in battle to shuffle all remaining characters in battle into owners’ decks.  If the current rescuer doesn't have the most Redeemed Souls, he may begin a new battle.

JBS would not be in play to be negated by Abe's Servant so the side battle would continue in a FBTN w/ banding fashion. The negating of Isaac would put JBS back in play however, and it could potentially be negated after being put back in play.

Grapes could be played in a Hero vs Hero side battle if there was an evil card placed on one of the Heroes. However, it could not be played on an evil card from the main battle (while the Hero vs Hero side battle was going on) because "in battle" refers to the current battle.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

I realized on the way home that was probably the answer.  The cascade negate scenario didn't sound quite right, but couldn't put my finger on the problem.

True on the placed enhancement.  That would have been obvious during a game, I think, but I did word the question poorly.

Yeah definitely messed up on stuff with side battles (amongst poor play too) but, hey we just gotta keep reminding ourselves were good at the game. Supposedly. At least we got this worked out before any larger tournaments.
