Side Battle Negation

Hey, if I play idol gossip and take all my opponent's heroes out of the main battle in the process of starting the side battle does Special Innitiative kick in ? Or does SI kick in if the hero loses in the side battle leaving no heroes  in the Field of Battle? Basically I am asking at what point can you negate a side battle card.

SI
When you are losing the battle by removal, you are granted special initiative to play an Enhancement that will interrupt or negate the card that is causing your charact’s removal. You are considered to be losing by removal when an opponent’s special ability, or a game rule that has been triggered by an opponent’s special ability, would leave you with no character in battle when the special ability has completed.

You can only negate it if you play a negate on your character in the side battle that can target the card that caused the side battle (Blessings, Abe's Servant, etc). Otherwise you can't.

Okay found this that supports you.

The phrase ‘Field of Battle’ refers to any cards in the Field of Battle including primary battle and side battles.

To further expound upon your questions:

1. Your hero being moved to the side battle is not considered "removal from battle" and you do not have special initiative to play a negate on the side battle card at that point.
2. If your hero loses in the side battle you do not have special initiative to negate the side battle card in the main battle. If the opposing evil character plays something to remove you from battle (Achan's Sin, Rizpah's Sackcloth, Carried Into Exile, etc) then you have special initiative to negate the evil enhancement that is removing you (if you have an evil enhancement that can negate the evil enhancement causing removal, such as Shimei's Malicious Curse).

See this thread for a recent ruling.
