Is this a legal play?

Opponent makes a rescue attempt with a hero who does not stop the following sequence. I block with Pharaoh's Cupbearer, capture him to opponent's LoB, and search my discard pile for Abram. I then add Abram as my Genesis character to battle (since neither the SA nor its Play As say Genesis EC). Since heroes cannot block, he goes to my opponent's rescuing side. Since I now have no blockers, the RA is successful. Abram returns to my territory as Abraham 10/11, having made a successful rescue. Yes?

(And yes, I can think of a few instances when this would be a logical play.)

Pretty sure the rule is that add to battle can only add to your side of the battle, meaning Cupbearer can search for Abram but he can't add him to battle, because good cards can't be on your side of this particular battle.

Correct. The only cards that allow you to add characters to an opponent's side of the battle are ones that are specifically choose the blocker/rescuer. So it is not a legal play.
