What happens when your oponent bands to your Seven Sons of Sceva?

Seven Sons of Sceva (Pi)
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Crimson • Ability: 7 / 7 • Class: None • Special Ability: Negate and discard Three Nails. You may exchange this Evil Character with an orange brigade demon in discard pile. Cannot be prevented by a good card. • Identifiers: NT Male Human • Verse: Acts 19:14-15 • Availability: Priests booster packs (Uncommon)

1 Can he use the SA if it would break the rule that you can't have oponents cards in your own discard pile?

If you do not understand the question, then do not post.

What happens when your oponent bands to your Seven Sons of Sceva? Can he use the SA if it would break the rule that you can't have oponents cards in your own discard pile?

That is a good question. I am sure there has been a ruling about this in the past, but I do not remember the specific result. I believe that your opponent can exchange for an orange demon in their own discard pile, but then Seven Sons is transferred to your discard pile because of the rule you stated.

Your opponent could not use your Seven Sons to exchange with an orange demon in your discard pile. Basically the discard pile has to be on the same side of the battle that Seven Sons is on (unless the SA is somehow redirected).

SSoS will exchange for an orange brigade demon in the opponent's discard pile and then go to your discard pile, not your opponents.

Thanks. Because that's how we played it and I just wanted to clarify.

do we have anymore examples of this scenerio?

It would seem to me that if you could not exchange (cost) then you could not receive the benefit.

I know game rule says to default to owners deck, and this is the way elders/playtesters have agreed this works, but i feel it should be more closely looked at because technically the cost of the ability is not being met. Any thoughts?
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

I'm not sure an exchange would fit under the cost/benefit category. However, I agree that this seems to resemble an "instead" scenario, which has recently been ruled to not fulfill cost/benefit.

This is not an instead ability. Abilities that are similar to other abilities don't necessarily get ruled exactly the same.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

So what if you played Taking Egypt's Wealth and you got their Acts of Solomon enhancement and then they play it to exchange with a card in deck when you can't have an opponent's card in your deck?

Then Acts of Solomon would go into their deck, and you get a card.

This is not an instead ability. Abilities that are similar to other abilities don't necessarily get ruled exactly the same.

But they should be considered, if they are similar. That is why we have discussions.

As I was saying, it resembles an "instead" ability because the card cannot truly be exchanged by game rule. If we are ruling that the exchange completed and then the opponent's card is removed, that would agree with it not being an instead. However, what is the process for the Taking Egypt's Wealth followed by Mayhem. Does the opponent's enhancement get shuffled into your deck first and then you go into your deck and take their enhancement out? Since that is not technically a "search" would you even have to shuffle after you look for their enhancement? If we are ruling that your opponent's card returns to them before the shuffle, then that would mean the card in the original scenario never made it to yoour discard pile, so no exchange took place.

I don't mind having a simple overarching rule, but I do not think this is as cut and dried as you are making it.
