I set a guy aside for X turns. By turns, it means upkeep phases by the player controlling the character, correct?

I wouldn't get worked up. Although this is actually really simple, it isn't going to wreck your opponent. Although if it does work (which I doubt) I'd imagine it is going to get changed.
