Self's identifier says that its identifiers and abilities copy that of a selected opponent's Hero in play.
...what if there aren't any?
And when there is, is it still considered generic regardless?
Furthermore, seeing as its abilities matching those of an opponent's Hero in play is actually the special ability of Self, does that mean that selecting a Hero to copy does not happen until Self enters battle? If this is the case, does it not remain a non-human non-demon generic genderless Evil Character of every brigade with no abilities until it enters battle?

Being generic (or unique) is an identifier, so it copies whatever trait the target hero has.
It is my understanding that Self's copy ability is an extension of the identifier, so he copies when you play him (to territory or battle) and keeps that copy until the opponent's hero leaves the field of play.
Also, I'm pretty sure Self is always a multi-brigade EC with no SA regardless of who it copies (since brigade and SA are not identifiers).

Ok, I didn't see that errata before. It does have an official errata that regards the special ability as an identifier.
Then my question remains: what if there is no Hero to copy?
-
Then it has no one to copy and is a 0/0 character in play, which would mean it is discarded.

That's what I was afraid of...
Ok, thanks, browarod.
