players fixing the reg?

1.  There are significant problems still with the ruling system and the reg which has been acknowledged.

2.  There have been recent steps to improve things (Guardian's threads) but they are still short of fully helping players.  I think it would also be desirable to have things be organized more professionally.

3.  There is no point in just complaining about it.  If players are really concerned about things here (like in a recent thread) then we should contribute something to help fix this.

So why not try to have willing volunteers work on it?  I have seen many people offer to help in this area and I saw the official response that Cactus wants a small crew working on it.  I think people just concluded that there was nothing we could do because we don't have official authorization but that doesn't need to stop us.

I know Cactus decides the rules but many experienced players would give you a more accurate answer then the reg will.  If you collected their knowledge together on paper, it would have more authority for ruling in tournaments not because of inherent authority but because it happens to align more closely to the official rules.  If we had started this 3 years ago, I think we might have a finished usable document by now.  I know Rob had his reasons for not going this way but if we produced a professional document then he might change his mind.  If the reg comes out soon then this would probably be a waste of time but if it takes another 3,4....10 years to be fully finished then I think we'll be wishing we had tried this.

If we're not willing to try this then I think we stop all criticism and just accept how they are doing it.

As far as I know, Cactus does not want any more volunteers for the new REG.  As to editing the old one, the current setup is that it only can be edited by one person from one computer.  Secure?  Absolutely.  Useless for collaborative editing?  Absolutely.

I know, you missed the point.

My proposal is that, seperate from the other reg work, unauthorized players copy the reg into some other system that can be collaboratively edited.  We work on getting a single, comprehensive, cohesive document.  My thought is that if we had started that 3 or 4 years ago, we might be done by now.

I don't think there is any technical problem with this.  There is just the issues of willingness and feasibility.

You mean, a Wiki?  Yeah, that's been tried.

Please post items to be corrected here. Thank you!

Should we consider this thread authoritative over the REG?  (If there's elder confirmation on a post)

Yes. This thread is to be regarded as an appendix to the REG that lists its errors, omissions and additions since it was last updated.

What happens when this thread gets so large it's hard to make sure I didn't miss something?

If the new REG does not get released in the near future, and this thread grows to the point where it's cumbersome to read through it all, the eventual plan is to organize it in some fashion and convert it to a downloadable .pdf file.

That's the best way to help. Find the errors, let us know, and once we confirm they are errors, we post the update.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

I agree that the thread is better than nothing.

No offense but what if the REG doesn't come out for another X years?  How long do we want to wait?  You talk about an eventual plan but in the meantime it is not integrated in one document.  What if that eventual plan ends up starting 5 years from now when the thread is very large?  Why not start that work now instead of eventually?

I was never aware of that.  Maybe it is not feasible but I would be willing to work on something like this and it has seemed like many other people who are not involved but wanted to be, would be too.

Where X is the number of NT distractions in your territory.

Sadly, this was not the case.  It's a lot more work than you realize.
