Title: search question
Post by: Maynid on August 21, 2012, 03:20:24 PM
When an ability says, for example, "search deck for a good enhancement", when I reveal the card to prove this, do I have to reveal the entire card, or is it sufficient to only reveal the icon in the corner to satisfy that I have searched for the correct card type?

You have to reveal the entire card.

The rule has always been that you show the whole card, but I don't see a reason why that necessarily has to be the case. Most experienced players will know exactly what card you get based on the icon, so it will rarely be too advantageous. Also, if the search is for a more specific type of card (O.T., weapon class, etc.) you'd have to show more of the card anyway.

I think if the rule is show the whole card, we should enforce it that way, I have had several complaints issues and bickering over this rule at my tournaments. I have made them reveal the card.

According to the REG, the card must be revealed. I think we all would normally rule that revealed cards must be shown in their entirety, and I see no reason to change that now.

Instant Abilities > Search >  Special Conditions
If an ability that is paired with a search ability targets a specific type of card, reveal the targeted card before carrying out the paired ability.

Instant Abilities > Reveal > How to Play
When revealing a card a player must give all opponents ample time to observe the revealed card before performing additional actions.

Yeah, nowhere in the rules does it say "reveal the qualifying part of the card", it says to reveal the card, so I'm always baffled by the double-handed hold some people use to just show me the symbol.  Nooooo, need to see more ;)
