Title: Scroll of Isaiah question
Post by: redemption collector 777 on November 15, 2015, 01:37:52 PM
Scroll of Isaiah SA:

Good convert Enhancements cannot be negated. When an Evil Character is converted, its owner may discard 2 cards of matching brigade from hand instead.

Example

-Scroll of Isaiah is active in a territory

-2/2 hero in battle with brown 7/7 EC.

-Hero plays a good convert enhancement (convert to green brigade) and targets 7/7 EC

-RA is successful and EC returns to territory as a green hero.

-Then the player with the EC can discard two brown cards from hand and bring it back as a brown EC in their own territory.

1. Is this how scroll of Isaiah works??

If not then can someone explain it to me maybe with an example??

the instead occurs in battle during the battle phase so when the good convert enh is played the opponent may discard two cards of matching brigade instead to maintain the evil character as evil in battle

also outside of battle they can do it the same way like with meeting the messiah it's just that the convert enh can't be interrupted or negated for example with gam's speech

Basically, while SoI is active, unless you discard two cards matching the brigade of the EC being converted immediately to instead the convert, the convert becomes CBN.

This is correct; the order of operations in the original post doesn't demonstrate how instead works.  Instead immediately inserts itself and allows for a different effect to take place 'instead' of the original effect.  So at the moment the character would be converted (but before it actually completes), the owner may discard 2 matching cards from hand instead and the convert does not happen.

This is true whether or not the convert targets a character in battle or in territory.

okay thanks for the answers.

Another question.

1. If Scroll of Isaiah was active and Cornileus (part of SA negate artifacts) was in battle with an EC and plays a good convert enhancement  , can Cornileus negate the instead on the artifact making the good convert ability CBN with no optional instead?
