How to PlayA play an enhancement ability takes a card from the player's hand and puts it into play.
Shoes of Peace on SoV would not activate if CwD was active.

Clarification for Definition of "Play"-You play an enhancement by attempting to activate its special ability (or numbers in battle)-You play a character or multicolor site by putting it in your territory or your side of the battle. -You play any other card type by putting it face up on the playing surface from hand, deck, or discard pile due to your special ability or game action, except when you discard a card from hand.

That's what you see on, say, 2k Horses. Playing a card, however, is defined as:Quote from: Prof Underwood on May 11, 2012, 11:02:56 PMClarification for Definition of "Play"-You play an enhancement by attempting to activate its special ability (or numbers in battle)-You play a character or multicolor site by putting it in your territory or your side of the battle. -You play any other card type by putting it face up on the playing surface from hand, deck, or discard pile due to your special ability or game action, except when you discard a card from hand. The relevant, first part (underlined) is where this applies. When the held enhancement tries to activate, it is being "played". CwD restricts that from happening, so the ability cannot go off unless the character is opposed in battle. Note that this answers your other questions: For evil weapons, by the time they are "played" (activated in battle) the character is already opposed, since they are blocking, and why it is different from Lifting the Curse (which was already "played" because its ability already activated).Hopefully that all makes more sense.
