ruling questions 2-9-2016

1. When a protected from discard evil character is decreased in territory to 0/0 they stay in territory, correct?
2. Then with horses can they enter battle, play an end the battle enhancement, and get a block?
3. In t2 would they be discarded or go back to territory +1/1?

4. If an ec with horses enters battle, draws, and plays an end the battle enhancement do cards like priest of Zeus still trigger for the draw since the battle was ended and now it's a new phase immediately after the draws completion followed by the play?

5. If 4 d coin is up can it be interrupted by horses to discard deck or hand?

6. Can Herod's Dungeon be interrupted by cards that "interrupt the battle" and protect from neutral or opponents cards?

I guess I'm really looking for more of a clarification here of when phases and abilities have to resolve. Do abilities like PoZ carry through to the next phase even though the horses draw lead straight to ending the battle?

7. Does the battle phase include everything in the game (all ongoing abilities) at that moment when you interrupt the battle or only the cards in the battle?

These are probably questions I should already know the answer to, but I'd really like to have some feedback so I'm sure I understand the mechanics

If the protection is from discard and not just discard special abilities.

2. Then with horses can they enter battle, play an end the battle enhancement, and get a block?
If the character is a warrior and holding a horses weapon, you can play an EtB enhancement using the horses before the game checks for the decrease. Whether or not you get a block depends on the overall stats of the characters in battle.

3. In t2 would they be discarded or go back to territory + 1/1?
The character is discarded. Experience credit isn't awarded until after the point in which the character stats are checked.

I don't think so but don't quote me on that.  ;)

Interrupt the battle only interrupts cards in battle. To my knowledge there is no way to get 4DC into battle.

No, see above.

Triggers, like PoZ, that were triggered in a previous phase don't carry into the following phase if they were somehow "cheated" out of their chance to resolve by a series of events that pushes the game into another phase.

yeah so it says all active ongoing abilities.. is there an easy way to know which are ongoing vs which are instant? because the way i read herod's dungeon it is an ongoing ability similarly to 4dc so i'm wondering why they would not be able to be interrupted by an itb card while the reg says all active ongoing abilities which would include all abilities ongoing in the game, not just in the battle

on top of that i'm wondering if say a hero was captured by herod's dungeon if special initiative is granted at that moment if they only have 1 rescuing hero in which case an itb card could be played

Battle
The phrase ‘in battle’ or ‘current battle’ refers to any cards in the current battle that can be either
the primary battle (rescue attempt or battle challenge) or it can refer to a side battle, NOT BOTH.
See also Battle Phase.
The phrase ‘Field of Battle’ refers to any cards in the Field of Battle including primary battle and
side battles.

so this doesn't say the battle or refer to interrupt the battle which means that i'm still not finding in the reg why itb wouldn't work on anything outside the battle too like herod's dungeon self control etc seems like a hero with faithfulness should be able to be underdecked/captured from territory with an itb card playing a capture or underdeck ability

This appears to be where you've become confused. The part you quoted above means that an "interrupt the battle" ability only interrupts cards in the current battle.

If you want to target a broader area than just the current battle you will need to use an interrupt (not interrupt the battle) or negate ability which often can target any card in play. Cards like Foreign Sword, Word of Christ and Joseph before Pharaoh have been made to allow players to target cards like Herod's Dungeon when it's removing your last Hero from battle.

This is also my understanding.  However, if that is the intention, the REG is not completely clear on that point (that triggered effects do not persist to the next phase if not completed).  May need cleaned up?

I also agree that if an EC w/ Horses blocks, draws 2 and plays an End the Battle card, then triggers like Golden Cherubim and Priest of Zeus lose their chance to activate--they have been triggered but are pending activation. Essentially, pending triggered abilities do not cross into the next phase.

i really appreciate the responses here reading the reg i kind of feel like an update could include something along those lines of

pending abilities don't carry through to the next phase or something if interrupted i dunno and maybe like

interrupting the battle only affects cards in the current battle maybe saying all on going abilities makes me feel like i can interrupt tgt with an interrupt the battle or an art or a site etc i kind of wish that's the way it was because then a lot more cards would be more playable due to their abilities having the potential to counter currently powerful cards but being unable to because the interrupt can't target them but the ability itself can

for example my current interpretation of what is in the reg would allow for all on going abilities to be interrupted meaning that i can play reach of desperation and then play great faith to search through nazareth or narrow escape to evade a herod's dungeon which to my understanding is not the intention of what is in the reg for interrupt the battle

another question i have here is when horses for example is played the next enhancement follows through the interruption correct? is it

interruption(draw 2, play, played enhancements ability)end interruption

or is it

interruption(draw 2, play)end interruption, played enhancements ability

so if someone has like a protected from discard hero you can interrupt the protection with horses then play a discard ee card which would work or does it not work since the interruption of the protection ended with the end of horses ability and only followed by the playing of the next enhancement, not the inclusion of the enhancement's ability itself?
