Title: Ruling Question

Side battle was begun by Idle Gossip.  Opponent plays Loyalty of Ruth in the side battle to draw one and try to withdraw my evil character that created the side battle.  Does that work since Loyalty of Ruth doesn't target "in battle"

I don't think so, I think it has to say field of battle to do something out of the side battle

It actually does say "field of battle" implicitly:

● Targets must be in the field of battle.

Loyalty of Ruth (http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Loyalty_of_Ruth_(J)) does not specify "in battle" so, by default, it can target any evil character in the field of battle.

Note that this has been done with Strife  (http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Strife_(I))since it was released.
