Title: Rescuing with Sites

When a player brings a site into battle so he can have access to another site, and if that hero loses the battle, is the site discarded or does it return to that player's territory?

Returned to territory. The evil characters aren't fighting the site, they are fighting the heroes.

Drrek is correct. Unless the blocker plays something like Deluge of Rain (discard all cards in battle) that gets rid of the site, it returns to territory regardless of what happens to the hero(es).
