Melchizidek... are you sure he's a king?

I don't believe Melchizidek is a king... read this:

Hebrews 7:2 "The name Melzhizedek means "king of Justice," and king of Salem means "king of peace."

So King of Salem means "king of peace." He's not an actual king, it's a title, like saying Satan is "prince of the air."

He was the physical king of (Jeru)salem.

But why doesn't "Salem" get used anywhere else? And why not call it Jerusalem? The Bible refers to Jerusalem many times in the Bible... and why would it say "king of salem means king of peace." That seems pretty clear...

Simple, at the time the city was called Salem. Later, it was called Jerusalem.

Okay... Melchizedek lived with Abraham. There were no kings... were there? At least not in Israel.

That's correct. There was no Israel. But there most certainly were kings.

But then what do you make of "king of Salem means king of peace."

So the kingdom meant peace? I was assuming that Salem meant "peace," and so being the king of salem meant being the king of peace.

Melchizidek was both a King and Priest, which makes him unique because the only other person with those same titles is Jesus.  Salem does mean peace but a name doesn't always mean the place or person are just like the definition.  Salem was the location that would later become Jerusalem which as we all know never really had peace except for a few year here and there.

Salem comes from Shalom I believe, which means peace. And Jeru comes from something like Ir, which means city. Jerusalem then means City of Peace. Salem, as Pol said, was just basically early Jerusalem.
