Actually I don't think so...I've heard of people playing it both ways. It usually doesn't cause problems so perhaps that's why it doesn't have a 15 page thread...yet... ::)

Quote from: REG
Ongoing Special Abilities > Increase or Decrease Ability > How to Play
Temporary Change
A large majority of the cards increase or decrease the ability of cards from the time they are played in battle until the end of battle.  Some specify “until end of turn.”

Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Outdated. The new default is "permanent unless otherwise specified." It came up with regards to Strengthening Angel's SA.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Hmm, then that needs to be confirmed and put in the REG Corrections Thread. I'm certainly not going to argue one way or the other for 15 pages, but I definitely thought the /4 did not stick.

I actually don't mind it at all since I'm an avid user of Brown in T2 and increasing my opponent's Heroes by 0/4 will actually help give me initiative more often.

While it wasn't 15 pages, there was a good 3-4 pages of discussing this starting here: http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=22554.msg361896#msg361896

The increase from Gibeonite Trickery only lasts until the end of the battle.

Quote from: Gibeonite Trickery (Pa)
Type: Evil Enh. • Brigade: Brown • Ability: 0 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: Each Hero in battle gains 0/4 and the battle immediately ends. Ability can not be interrupted or prevented. • Play As: Increase each Hero in battle 0/4 until the end of battle. Battle immediately ends. Cannot be negated. • Identifiers: OT, Depicts a Weapon • Verse: Joshua 9:3-5 • Availability: Patriarchs booster packs (Uncommon)
See also:
•      Battle Immediately Ends
•      Cannot be Negate
•      Increase or Decrease Abilities
You'll notice the play as which clarifies how Gibeonite Trickery works.  It's also categorized as an increase or decrease ability.

These cards increase or decrease the ability (strength and toughness) of characters in a prescribed way.  The increase or decrease is a fixed number.  Some cards may affect more than one character.  The increase or decrease lasts until the end of the battle unless specified otherwise (i.e. end of turn).  After the battle, the characters not discarded in battle return to the territory with their original ability.  See Greater Worth for cards that increase at a variable rate, the rate dependent on other conditions.

To my knowledge a "new default" has not been agreed upon or even discussed among the elders.

That was Schaef's conclusion alone.  Based on a top down rules system, which is what we use today, I don't see how that is accurate.

So in other words, Strengthening Angel really is quite useless then?

He is useless anyways. I like the idea for the card though, not all cards are made to be used in competitive decks.

I agree, it isn't right to change a rule to make one card more usable (that will have little play time regardless) and at the same time effect the way gib trick (a card that comes up alot) has been played when it has always been the other way.

I'd also like to know.  Since there is apparently some disagreement among elders on this one, I brought it up on the other side.  We'll get back with an answer.

edit: Just in case anyone comes to the mistaken idea that Schaef is being a renegade elder as opposed to the cuddly, defend the status quo with his life, tyrannical overlord that we all know and love...I'd just like to point out that his ruling in the other thread was based on information from other elders referring to future understanding from the infamous "new REG" :)

More seriously, Schaef, Gabe, and all the other elders really are all working together to get this ironed out, and I appreciate how they are all dedicated to the same thing when it all comes down to it.  It's a great team, and I'm proud to be a part of it.

In addition to this, we're also hard at work on the definition of 'Play', as well as work on the new set, and we all have various other responsibilities such as Family, Work, and Education, so please be patient with us. Hopefully we'll have this one figured out for you in the next day or two.
