RBD/4DC/Trapper/Self Control

just wondering here what is the difference, because previously i read that rbd will discard cards through 4dc protection. however, trapper becomes a cbn capture because if your hand is protected then you can not instead the capture with a discard. just trying to figure out why the same means lead to a different end. thanks a ton for the advice in advance!

I'm pretty sure RBD does not discard cards threw 4DC.

RBD does not discard through 4DC; what it does do is stop the draw, because the cards are revealed instead of drawn. So the net effect of using 4DC with RBD up is that the cards are revealed, LSs go to play, and the rest are topdecked.

Self Control is different, because it protects the cards from being revealed or discarded. Hence, cards are drawn as normal.

The instead portion of The Entrapping Pharisee targets a card in hand for discard, so if the hand is protected (such as by Self Control) then that option cannot be taken.

Any ruling that said that RBD discards through 4DC is incorrect, as revealed cards remain in the location they are revealed from until a separate ability moves them somewhere else. So as long as they were revealed from deck, which 4DC protects from discard, they cannot be discarded while 4DC is active. They can still be revealed/put in play, since 4DC only protects from discard.

I'm sure that as soon as Dayne sees this thread he will agree with me, and hopefully that will settle it to your satisfaction. Until then, you will just have to believe me... ;)

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

I'm sure that as soon as Dayne sees this thread he will agree with me...

It's been nice to get home and see these threads already addressed (since I can no longer access on breaks at work and thus cannot be compulsively answering questions  ::)), so I've just been giving everything a + as we go.  Since my name got thrown out there, I'll also say that I agree with the rulings given thus far ;)
