Questions from a noob

Hello everyone! I'm new to this message board and this game, and I have a few questions. Since this game doesn't even exist where I live, I'm left to figure out this game for myself so I can teach my friends. These questions are based on the G and H decks, as that's all I have to learn on. Please be patient if my questions are horribly basic:

1. When banding Women of Israel (May band to any OT female hero) and Miriam (Hero ignores gold brigade evil characters), does Women of Israel inherit ignoring gold brigade evil characters as long as they are banded?

2. When playing an enhancement like Meeting in the Wilderness (Set two heroes aside for 2 turns. Both heroes return with abilities increased 3/3), can it only be played during a battle on a hero, or can it be played during the preparation or discard phase?

3. I'm trying to understand Immunity from the rule book, but it's unclear. Let's take Red Dragon (Immune to human heroes). If Miriam is making a rescue attempt and Red Dragon is defending, what happens? Does the rescue attempt fail?

4. Cards like Moses and Saphiarah that have the special ability "Negate all special abilities on characters and enhancements (Except this ability), when they are in play, it puts a stop to any and all special abilities on all enhancements and characters, making the game a battle of numbers only, right?

5. In battle: Moses is the hero (8/8) and is going for a rescue attempt. Defending is Idolaters (1/3). Idolaters have initiative and an enhancement is played that gives it 2/2 to make it a 3/5. At this point, since Idolaters is still losing, does the initiative get passed to Moses, or is it still on Idolaters since it's losing?

6. Is it common for a game to go so long as to run out of cards in the deck?

I believe that's it for now! Thanks in advance for your time and answers!

1. When banding Women of Israel (May band to any OT female hero) and Miriam (Hero ignores gold brigade evil characters), does Women of Israel inherit ignoring gold brigade evil characters as long as they are banded?

No, the Ignore does not transfer to Women of Israel, meaning that they do not gain the immunity to Gold.  However, all Gold EC are still being ignored because Miriam is in battle, and ignore restricts them from entering battle.  So, Women do not stop the ignore from keeping out Gold EC, but they do not gain the immunity associated with having ignore either.

2. When playing an enhancement like Meeting in the Wilderness (Set two heroes aside for 2 turns. Both heroes return with abilities increased 3/3), can it only be played during a battle on a hero, or can it be played during the preparation or discard phase?

The rule of thumb is, does it give a benefit or is it harmful?  The beneficial cards like this one (increases strength), the feasts (draw cards), and so on can all be played during your prep or discard phases on your own characters.  Harmful cards, or cards that let you set aside opponents' characters, must be played in battle.

3. I'm trying to understand Immunity from the rule book, but it's unclear. Let's take Red Dragon (Immune to human heroes). If Miriam is making a rescue attempt and Red Dragon is defending, what happens? Does the rescue attempt fail?

Immunity means that special abilities cannot target the card and the character is immune to the numbers.  The other side of the battle can still be losing or in stalemate, so they can still play cards (for example, to negate the immunity or to get big enough not to be discarded at the end of the battle), but as long as the immunity stays, the immune character cannot 'lose' the battle.

4. Cards like Moses and Saphiarah that have the special ability "Negate all special abilities on characters and enhancements (Except this ability), when they are in play, it puts a stop to any and all special abilities on all enhancements and characters, making the game a battle of numbers only, right?

Not the game, characters only activate when they enter battle, and in general their SA only stay active during battle (exceptions say "While in play", but they still must be first activated in battle).  These cards can make battles FBTN, but not the game.

Nope, if you are still losing you may play the next enhancement.  In this case, initiative does not pass until Moses is either losing or in a stalemate.

6. Is it common for a game to go so long as to run out of cards in the deck?

Very common, especially because that is the goal of many meta decks (to draw out your powerful cards and dominants fast).

1. Women of Israel does not, but since Miriam is in battle, the gold ECs are ignored and can't enter battle.

2. Set asides can be played in prep or discard phase.

3. Immunity makes it so the character cannot be affected by what it is immune to.  In the case of Miriam being blocked by Red Dragon, Miriam cannot do anything to red dragon without interrupting or negating his immunity (or using a regardless of immunity card, such as Plague of Frogs).  Miriam will still be discarded as the result of the battle unless her toughness is greater than Red Dragon's strength, but Miriam's strength does nothing to Red Dragon's toughness.

4. Character abilities only work in battle unless they specifically specify otherwise.  Moses and Saphiarah only activate in battle, and they make that battle a fight by the numbers battle, all enhancements and other characters are negated unless they are Cannot be Negated or Cannot be Prevented.

5. No, Idolaters still have initiative until they are winning the battle (either by numbers or by removing Moses by battle with a special ability), there is a stalemate, or the battle is in mutual destruction.

6. Depends on the decks being played, but its not in general uncommon in type 1.

Thanks! That clears up a lot! But a few more questions based on those answers. Obviously, I've been playing the game a bit wrong. Again, sorry if these questions are terribly basic

2. I thought all enhancements could be played only when a character of matching brigade color is in battle?

4. If I play a character in my preparation phase or in my discard phase, it's special ability doesn't become active?

Thanks.

Welcome to the game and the message boards! Your off to a great start. What they said above is correct. You started at a great time. Keep playing and showing your friends. This game is spread by word of mouth so help your friends find more people too. The NEW starter decks are coming out, which I have heard are the BEST teaching tool Redemption has ever created (the message boards will blow up with talk and discussion on new cards and new deck builds) and depending where you are at you might be able to attend Nationals in August! After playing another game for 17 years finding this game changed my life. Have fun playing and we are always here for your questions and concerns. Welcome to the Redemption family!

2. Territory class enhancements (which have a palm tree on the left below the bible or skull box) can be played during your preparation or discard phase) are enhancements from the set Thesaurus ex Preteritus and newer sets.

4. Special abilities on characters can ONLY be activated in Battle.

4.  No, character abilities only activate in battle, and unless otherwise stated on the card, are only activated for that battle phase.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the info! I'm from New Brunswick, Canada. To my knowledge, no one knows about this game. After I get to know it, I might try to spread it around my city.

Sweet, another Canadian Redemption Player. Of course you are halfway across the country from me.

Anyway, welcome to the game. I hope you continue to enjoy it and the community built around it.

Healing enhancements can also be played outside of battle, provided you have a target that needs healing and a character of matching brigade to play it on.

Awesome! Good to know I'm not the only Canadian on here. Seem like it's only people from the USA playing.

If I play an enhancement on my preparation or discard phase, I would have to have a character with a matching brigade color on the field right?

Yes. You always have to have a character of matching brigade (or a character that has the ability to play the enhancement from a special ability) to play enhancements, whether it is battle or prep/discard.

On page 44 of the Collectors Edition Rulebook it lists under "enhancements" the "types" of them that you can use. It now will include "territory class" as well.

The new rule book in the NEW starter set will have all the updated info you will need. Plus you can use this REG as a resource as well:

Sweet. Thanks everyone. After I go over these corrections with my friend, I'll make a video of us playing a game. If anyone wants to check it out, and correct us if we're doing anything wrong, that would be cool.
