Shimei's malicious curse

If my opponent plays faith of Gideon "you may Force 2 evil characters to fight." And he chooses my two evil characters in battle King Saul and Doug he has the initiative and then plays shimei's malicious curse "all special abilities on characters and enhancements except this one are in a negated. Battle is determined by the numbers." What exactly happens?

From what it sounds like to me is that SMC interrupts faith of Gideon which created a side battle and puts both my King Saul and Doug back into the previous battle against his hero. Does SMC stay on the evil character that he played it on or does it go back to his hand as if it never was played?

SMC would indeed negate Faith of Gideon so your two characters would return to the main battle, which would also be a "fight by the numbers" battle now.

SMC would be retained by the King Saul/Doeg side of the main battle.

That's what I thought I just wanted to make sure. I wasn't 100% sure if SMC went back to hand since faith of Gideon never happened. But I guess if it did that it would be one big loop.

That's why SMC has the "except this one" clause.

What if I get blocked by king Rehoboam, my opponent picks my blue genesis son of jacob hero to fight another. Can I play Joseph before pharaoh to negate and capture King Rehoboam in the side battle?

King Rehoboam - if blocking select any 2 heroes in territories to fight each other. Protect this character from opponent's cards during that battle.

Joseph before pharaoh - if used by a some of Jacob, negate opponent's evil or neutral card. If it's a human, capture it to opponent's land on bondage. Otherwise put it beneath deck.

I think the question was moreso about whether or not the side battle would be negated and thus it would be as if JBP was never played. I think JBP would actually be indirectly negated by itself, but I'm not sure. It also could be that the side battle is still negated but Rehoboam still gets captured.

To prevent loops, negate abilities cannot negate themselves, directly or indirectly.

That's kind of what I figured. So the side battle would be over and the Rehoboam would be captured. Although, would Rehoboam get special initiative? I guess he would have to play some sort of "Negate all" such as SMC, right?

In the game this happened in that we were not sure if it would work or not. Ben was in the original rescue attempt and made JBP CBN
