does Gabriel's(di) special abilite last for the rest of the game

That's weird, because that's not what my Gabriel says:
"Search discard pile for a good Luke Enhancement and add it to hand. You may remove it from the game to protect Gabriel from capture and Discard."

I would hope this would last longer than just one battle, but I can see how it would be ruled that it doesn't.

The REG still lists the incorrect ability for Gabriel (Di). There was an error on the printing sheets and he was printed with a different ability than intended. The printed card is the actual ability.

this is a gained ability he would protected for remainder of game.

Hey,

Protect abilities last until the end of the current phase unless specified otherwise.  Since Gabriel doesn't specify otherwise it lasts until the end of battle.
