say i go in with Thaddeus "Protect all cards everywhere from EC's with toughness X or less=X number of your disciples" my character blocks with an EC that falls under thaddeus' special ability, can he play death of unrighteous and discard himself(I do know for sure it wouldnt shuffle the souls) but can he discard himself, or is he protected from himself?

DoU requires that the EC get to the discard pile. same with Suicidal Swine Stampede.

EDIT: (actually, reading the card, it's not a cost effect. I had heard from somebody that Tim said it wouldn't work)

the way the play as is states that it is two seperate abilities on DoU. I play it as a cost/effect ability. Like discard your evil character TO shuffle all lost souls into deck...But Maybe it should get a play as to be a cost/effect thing. Cause less confusion. IDK

It is a "Do x. Do y." ability. Not cost/effect.

Issue, if you are protected from yourself, then the lost souls are protected from you as well. It has no effect.

Also true, but at least we found out we need to errata DoU to a cost effect.

Why? It was written when we didn't know how to write abilities. We should fix it to what it obviously is intended to be.

It is two seprate abilities, and does not need to be a cost-effect.  It works just fine as is.

so besides the argument about cost/effect of DoU. no one has given a clear answer just a "maybe" is the EC protected from discarding, or a better example, can u play suicidal swine stampede and remove urself to protect the souls??

If the EC has toughness less than X, then he can't discard himself. He is a card in play, and he is an EC. So DoU would shuffle, but wouldn't discard the EC.

but the EC wouldnt be able to shuffle the lost souls cuz they are protected from him.

Oh yeah. True. Darn it.

So DoU does nothing in this scenario.

hahaha....kinda good...kinda bad....basically just makes a james/thaddeus band that much more ridiculous...the only thing i dont like about the disciples is they are all gonna be the same cookie cutter offenses, like i made one the night of leaving the tourney and it hasnt lost yet....my friend played a guy on RTS and he said the guy had just about the EXACT SAME OFFENSE as me...:( this makes me very sad, bcuz they are just making purple THAT much more powerful

Repeated for reference:

Death of Unrighteous (Pa)
Type: Evil Enh. • Brigade: Pale Green • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Shuffle all Lost Souls and sites in holder's Land of Bondage into owner's draw pile. Discard all Evil Characters in battle. • Play As: Shuffle [return] all Lost Souls, sites, and evil cards in sites in your Land of Bondage into your deck. Discard all Evil Characters in battle. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Genesis 7:23 • Availability: Patriarchs booster packs

The "play as" appears to be incorrect. It says, "Shuffle [return] all Lost Souls, sites, and evil cards in sites in your Land of Bondage into your deck." (emphasis added). The SA says "owner's deck." Would the shuffled cards not go back to their owner's deck, not the current holder?

You are correct, the Play As should be fixed. When discarded or returned to deck, cards always go to the deck/discard pile of their owner.
