"Opponent" of The Serpent

The Serpent (promo) reads - Once per game, you may paralyze a human Hero in a territory for X turns (limit 6). While paralyzed, restrict Hero's owner from play good Dominants. Cannot be prevented. [Identifier = Animal, X = # of cards opponent drew this turn].

In a multi-player game, does the X refer to the player who's rescue attempt/battle challenge you are blocking or is it the player who's Hero you are paralyzing?

Example: Player A has drawn 3 cards this turn and makes a rescue attempt. I block with The Serpent and paralyze a Hero in player B's territory. It the Hero paralyzed for 3 turns or 0 turns?
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

If there is a battle going on, then opponent is always the player you are in battle against

I agree with RDT about how we have ruled "opponent" in the past. Any hero that you are able to target would be paralyzed for three turns.
