Title: Protection of contents

I have three unimportant canaanites in Tower of Thebez when my opponent uses You are the Christ to discard ToT. Are the Cannanites discarded even though the contents are protected from opponents and Tower was not negated?

Tower of Thebez - While occupied and all your Evil Characters are Canaanites, negate Heroes. Protect contents from opponents. If attacked, you may return a card from here to territory.

You are the Christ - Discard an evil card.

Yes they are discarded.  Characters in fortresses go down with the ship.

To clarify, the Canaanites in this example are being discarded by game rule, not by You Are The Christ.  The contents of a fortress follow the fortress when it is removed from play.
