You go out with Angel under the Oak and exchange for Gideon. Can Gideon be returned by Goliath? Can he be exchanged by Laban?

General Description

A protect ability allows a card to be unaffected by special abilities or game rules that would normally affect it.

If a character is protected from opponents, special abilities used by that opponent cannot target said character.  However, negates will still work, given that negates target the special ability, not the character.  Thus, both Goliath's return ability and Laban's exchange ability cannot target Gideon.  However, you can still add a new hero with Goliath.
