Really? I didn't know that's how it worked but you're probably right.

No, it's not right.  Going back to the SA:

Holder may activate a second Artifact from Artifact pile or hand on this Fortress if that Artifact was found in Solomon's Temple.

Even the activation is based on whether the artifact is a Solomon's Temple Artifact.  If it is not, you may not activate it there.  It's not just that it won't work, it's that you cannot do it.

...you can't even put it there.

Sorry if you were posting this while I posted (insta-post is a pain ;)), but you cannot even activate it in the temple if it is not a Solomon's Temple Artifact.  Period.  And when it says 'activate', that doesn't just mean that the SA activates, it means the artifact being placed in that location.  Can't do it.

Activate

A card is activated when its special ability can be put to use. Characters and enhancements can only be activated when put into the Field of Battle. However, some other cards can be activated while in the Field of Play. Special abilities on characters that read “while in play” or” until discarded” are activated in battle and remain active after the battle as long as the character is not discarded, removed from the game, or returned to a draw pile.

This quote from the REG says that a card is activated when it's special ability can be put to use, so I think Redoubter is actually right because if the artifacts ability couldn't be put to use then it wouldn't be "activated" there which is the requirement for Solomon's Temple, "Holder may activate a second artifact..."

Not only that, but Solomon's Temple specifies which artifacts may be activated.  It ends with "if that Artifact was found in Solomon's Temple", and that "if" refers to the entire condition.  Should an artifact fail to meet that requirement, it cannot be activated at all by using Solomon's Temple.  It could only do so by using other conditions (such as the per-turn activation by game rule, or by another fortress/site).

In short: No artifact that is not a Solomon's Temple Artifact may be activated because of, or placed in, Solomon's Temple.

The one that I have puts that part as a new sentence (the part that says 'If it was found in Solomon's Temple it can activate immediately.) I used to use it and that is how it was explained to me. It can hold any artifact, but the Artifact doesn't work at all unless it's a Temple Artifact.

That's wrong.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Either way, it's not worth using it in your Deck unless you have a lot of Temple Artifacts (even then I'd question why you would use that over other better Temples)

The problem here is a poorly written "Play As." That first sentence is misleading, and is apprarently causing improper rulings.

What was the timeline on cleaning up faulty "Play As?"      :-X

I agree with Pol, that interpretation is not correct.  Whoever explained it to you explained it wrong, and that's why we have the boards, to help centralize rulings.

YMT...why do you ask such silly things ;)

I agree, really I'd they ever get time, Solomon's Temple should really be updated to be a No-effect Fort that holds a Solomon's Temple Artifact. At any point, I'm not looking at the card at the moment so I can't recheck it again.

That's what I was getting at. The ruling that was explained to you was most likely based on the "Play As," which separates the sentences. The incorrect ruling was completely logical based on that "Play As." If you read the card directly, there would not have been a misunderstanding.

This, of course, begs the question as to why there are so many faulty "Play As" in the REG, especially when they were not needed in the first place.
