Title: Presenting a Blocker before the Attacker is presented
Post by: crustpope on July 03, 2010, 12:31:52 PM
Since artifacts have to re-activate before each phase, should there not be a time period where the battle phase exists before the attacker is presented.  and if that is the case then....

1. Can I Use Gates of Hell to put a blocker in battle before the attacker is presented.

2. I would think that Choose the attacker abilities are similar to choose the blocker, in that if they happen as a result of an enhancement in battle, then they can be interrupted, but if I present a blocker (via gates of hell) and then play a choose the attacker ability, could that be interrupted as well?

Just trying to break the game (a little bit)  ;)

The battle phase begins when the active player presents a Hero to make a rescue attempt or battle challenge.  There's not battle phase before that happens.

While I'm sure that Gabe is correct that this combo of Crust's will not be legal, I'm not sure if the reasoning is correct.  Crust is right that artifacts reactivate (in a sense) each phase.  That is why if you discard you opponent's CoM during upkeep phase then your hero's special abilities work when you attack.  However, if your opponent's CoM is still there when your battle phase starts, then it kind of reactivates which makes it so that when your GC enters battle, their SA doesn't work.

So there definitely is at least something that happens during battle phase before the hero enters battle.  However, I'm confident that the defender would not be able to bring in an EC with GoH during this time.  I'm just not exactly sure what the reason will be that we come up with to stop it :)

I think Gabe's explanation is the exact reason. You cannot add an EC to the battle when there is no battle. According to the rulebook, the Battle Phase begins when a hero is placed in the Field of Battle.

Hey,

The battle phase begins when the active player presents a Hero to make a rescue attempt or battle challenge.  There's not battle phase before that happens.

This is exactly correct.

Although I do very much dislike that the Hero's SA gets to be activated first......

Boo! for not letting me break the game  :(

Soo do the choose the attacker abilities work in the same way as Choose the Blocker?  They can be interrupted if played in battle?
