Zeal for the Lord

A while ago, the REG had a ruling on Zeal for the Lord that if only one evil brigade was in play, Zeal could still be used.  However, that REG change has now disappeared.  Zeal is still on the front page of the REG under recent rulings, but the ruling itself is gone.  How is Zeal played?

It is a given that you fulfill as much of the special ability as possible.  Therefore, if only one evil brigade is in play, Zeal can still be used.  Similarly, Jepthah can discard one evil character in opponent's territory if there is only one.

However, in the case of Jepthah and other cards that have "cost" and "benefit" abilities, you must completely fulfill the "cost" to receive the "benefit."  For example, you cannot use Jephthah's ability if you have 0 cards in your draw pile.

Captain Kirk's reply is correct. The general procedure is what should be followed, and his assessment of the general procedure for Zeal of the Lord is correct. As noted by Cameron the Conqueror, specific card rulings have been removed over time. The specific rulings were part of old versions, and as you have likely realized over the years,  the specific rulings caused conflicts over time. Any remaining specific rulings will be removed in the next release of the REG, scheduled for this Fall.

Thanks for the replies.  I'm glad my favorite card still works. ;)
