Title: Pithom
Post by: Lamborghini_diablo on February 01, 2011, 01:13:55 PM
Why is Pithom able to discard lost souls?

I thought we had gotten in a habit of making all deck discard abilities put souls in play... Pithom just came out... Was this simply a mistake or intentional?

Can we make it a game rule that a discarded LS (from deck) is put into play?

Sure, go ahead and ruin my discard my own souls so you can't rescue anything deck ideas!

I agree, most cards say it on them anyway, why not just make it a rule?

I kinda like the LS-lockout strat. Although this card doesn't help it, I think if a couple more cards where created, it would make the LS-lockout a viable option.

I don't like this idea if your going to d/c there should be somesort of cost. If you hit my LS and get locked out thats your problem  :)

Also the only point of the faithful leper would be to get back a buried LS.

Not to mention Wicked Community...it says search for all lost souls, intimating that there could be more than one...since you can only use Burial once, there must be an assumption that there are other ways a Soul could be discarded.

I could bury your 3-liner before you can tap it/bury your Women-only so I can HT, etc.

And multi-player when you bury whoever's lost soul is being rescued rather than your own

you could splash in one of these:

The Thankful Leper (RA)
Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: Yellow • Ability: 1 / 10 • Class: None • Special Ability: Search opponent's discard pile for all Lost Soul and put into his territory. Abilities on good gold brigade cards cannot be negated if opponent has less than ten cards in deck. • Play As: Search opponent's discard pile for all Lost Soul and place in his territory. Abilities on good gold brigade cards cannot be negated if opponent has less than ten cards in deck. • Identifiers: NT Male Human, Samaria • Verse: Luke 17:15-16 • Availability: Rock of Ages booster packs (None)

I realize theres ways to get them back. My question is, why was it printed like that? Every deck discard since like, priests puts them into play.

It says from "his" deck, what if your opponent is of female gender? it said his deck lol. Does she just avoid getting milled scott free?

They ought to had put "from his or her deck".

Masculine is appropriate in unknown or groups.

Masculine is appropriate in unknown or groups.

That is correct, and this is the case on many Redemption cards.

Frankly, I would like clarification about when lost souls get discarded...some cards specify it, and some don't.  It seems like it would be fair to do it based on what the card states.  If the general rule is that discard from deck lost souls get put in play automatically, then it negates the need for cards that fish them out of the discard pile (Burial notwithstanding).

The general rule is that you do what the card says. If it tells you to put LSs in play instead, you do that. If it doesn't, then you don't. There is no overarching rule for if a LS gets discarded by a discard ability.

So... how about the original topic in the thread? Any input on that?  :P

I like the wording on Pithom because it makes you think more about discarding cards from your opponents deck because it may have bad repercussions if you do.

Rob prefers to keep special abilities short (5 lines or less).  If it is too long and we must trim it to fit, we sometimes have to sacrifice the effectiveness of the card.  So, in this case, we had to choose between sacrificing the ability to underdeck a good card (like Jerusalem Tower), or to put the discarded souls in play.  We chose to keep the underdecking ability and to force the player to gamble a bit with Pithom.

I agree...do what the card says. :)  Now I can go back to designing my LS lock deck :)
