Jarius' Daughter

So, Here's a really cool question for you all.

Jarius' Daugther

"The first time this character is defeated, she is healed. Return to territory with abilites increased 2/2.

Suppose that I play Grapes of Wrath in battle and she's shuffled.
Does she return to my territory +2/2?
Based upon the Philistine Outpost ruling I say yes. I'd like your opinion.

Thanks,

What Philistine Outpost ruling?

This isn't a "once per game" ability and she'd reset in the deck, so she shouldn't return +2/2.  I also think the heal triggers on defeat but won't work unless it's a discard, by the definition of heal.

While she does return from Capture, Shuffle would cause her to reset and therefore not return. Good idea, though.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

She doesn't reset though, not until all abilities complete. She was triggered, she gets to complete.

It can only be determined that she was defeated after she has already been shuffled.

Actually, upon closer reading, the return part is a separate ability not contingent upon anything. Every time she enters battle, she would return to territory increased 2/2...if she doesn't get a play-as, imagine the potential! Beef her up real huge and then place a SA Negater on her. Use a placer to give her Blessings and every other turn attack with like a 15/14 FbtN White hero!

Based on other rulings I've seen, just because it's 2 sentences doesn't make it 2 separate effects. They're considered together and contingent upon each other. If it isn't the first time she's defeated, she doesn't get healed and doesn't get returned +2/+2.

It does seem to me though that it is two seperate abilites. But it would be cool if somebody from PTB would come and help with this lol

I'm interested in seeing both questions answered as well.

However, seeing as they changed the wording on the new version, I'm thinking that may be sorta like a play as, but it wasnt for Gabriel....

Hey,

Yay for sentence fragments used in poorly worded really old cards! :P

I'm going to guess that "Return to territory" is clarifying text of what normally happens to a hero in battle that is defeated (by being discarded) and then healed.  And that the abilities increased by 2/2 is contingent on the heal (similar to Elijah's Bones of Bread of Life).  If the first time Jarius' Daughter is defeated she is defeated in some way other than being discarded (and assuming she isn't poisoned or diseased at the time) she would not be healable thus her ability would do nothing.  If the first time Jarius' Daughter is defeated she is defeated in some way other than being discarded and she is poisoned or diseased at the time, the poison or disease would be removed and she would gain 2/2, but her destination would be unchanged.

Tschow,

Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly
