It's an add to battle ability. Currently, that turns into a banding ability if there is another EC already in battle, but it shouldn't.

Based on other rulings that add-to-battle abilities that aren't always band abilities cannot be targeted as band, this would be 'no' as stated.

It would be a banding ability if, as pointed out, another EC is still in battle.  If Baker starts the battle, he is removed before the rest of the ability (add to battle) activates.  Therefore, not a band.

If Baker is banded in by another Egyptian EC and then uses his ability, it is a band at that point.

This came up at our tournament too.  So:

He has an ability that can be a band.  Why can't it be targeted as such?

Not really sick about hearing about them,

It's just one of those slightly confusing rules, that doesn't really have a great simplification that we like.

Simplification:

Add to battle is an add to battle ability.

Banding is a banding ability.

Play is a play ability.

Exchange is an exchange ability.

Just stop confusing the issue and there's no problem.

I agree that would be simpler, however we (The Elders) Don't like that simplification, for a variety of reasons that we've hashed out before.
