Jeroboam's Idoltary

Once the evil character in set aside is discarded by the decrease are my brown evil characters still protected from the first enhancement? I have always thought that this was the case but the wording of the card leads me to believe that its an instant ability that affects the remainder of the game and does not need to continuously activate. I'm thinking it would have to say "While evil character is set aside", or something to turn off...

Jeroboam's Idoltary

Also say I play dungeon of malachiah to capture Michael, can Michael play striking herod in SI then play another Striking Herod in Special initiative.

From the REG:
Quote
A set-aside ability is always followed by or paired with another ability that is not a set-aside ability but rather is an
ongoing ability that lasts as long as all of the cards targeted by the set-aside ability remain set aside. The ability that
follows or is paired with the set aside ability defines the benefit gained from being set aside or when the cards set
aside should be returned (i.e., a duration).

The protection would be the ability paired with the set aside, so it would last as long as the EC remains set aside.

I think.

Ok, any thoughts on the second one?

Nope, you get one chance and only one chance in SI. The only exception is if your SI ending ability is interrupted or negated thereby re-causing SI.
Just one more thing...

I don't see that from reading the definition of SI - it just says you have to be able to interrupt it.  Probably true, but could definitely be clearer if that's the case.

My statement isn't official or anything but according to the rules as written in the REG.

Dungeons attempts to capture Michael. Michael is being removed so he has special initiative to play an interrupt or negate. He plays Striking Herod, but can't target the character in battle (I'm not sure the exact limits of Jeroboam's Idolatry, so he may or may not be able to kill another character, but that's essentially irrelevant). Now after Striking Herod is complete Michael is still being removed so I would argue it still fulfils the requirements of Special Initiative, so I would argue that Michael's controller would still have Special Initiative to play another Interrupt.
If you are reading this signature, thank a physicist.

Thinking about it some more, it almost has to be like ChristianSoldier wrote, otherwise ITB then removing the character would be stopped by insteading the removal (via something like Herod's Temple, Solomon's Temple, etc.).  I guess you could try to list the exceptions, but that just seems to complicate things.

CS is correct.  The interrupting effect only has to interrupt the removal, it does not have to stop it permanently during the interrupt.
