Ishmaiah the Gibeonite (RA2)

I'm sure this has come up before, but I can't find it. If a Hero (or any character, for that matter) have multiple SAs, do I activate them in any order I choose? So, for Ishmaiah, can I activate the band ability before the draw ability? It seems that would be the intent of the card, otherwise he'd only get multiple draws if he was in the middle/end of a band. I want to know the general rule, not just this specific one, but this is what came up in our game tonight.

For the record, I ruled that the band could precede the draw.

Abilities are always carried out in the order printed on the card with the exception of add a character to battle abilities (as Kittens said) which always happen after everything else.
