Order of Operations

So I attack with Jehoram the Priest, and put Furnace of God's Wrath on Moses.

My next turn I attack with moses.

which activates first? The enhancement or the character?

Jehoram SA: If Book of the Law is active, you may place an O.T. Enhancement from hand or discard pile on a human Hero of matching brigade in your territory. The next time that Hero enters battle, that Enhancement activates and is discarded immediately.

I would say hero since the hero has to go into battle for the enhancement to be "carried" with him. Moses would come in negating all, then Furnace would try to work and be negated.

Not sure what happens first, but seems whenever the fbtn kicks in the enhancement would be negated anyway.

I still see it as the following:

1. Character abilities except gained, banding, or CTB abilities.
2. gained character abilities.
3. Weapon class enhs and placed enhs.
4. Banding abilities.
5. Gained Banding abilities.
6. CTB abilities
7. Gained CTB abilities.

However, I know Maly feels strongly against this.

Even if the enhancement worked first, it would be negated by Moses when his ability kicks in.  So, either way in this example it doesn't matter which one goes first!

Actually, I think I see why it might.

While I don't think anyone thinks it does, if the enhancement was to activate before moses's ability, it'd be discarded before he could negate it.

So is Gold Shield CBN?  It has to be discarded to use it, but I'm pretty sure you can still negate it.

A "negate any enhancement in play" will not negate gold shield.

A "negate the last enhancement played" is able to negate self-discarding enhancements.

I'm not sure if Moses is able to negate cards that are no longer in play. Anyone else care to answer? (this is of course a sidebar the original question, as pretty much everyone I know agrees the placed enhancement comes somewhere after the hero's SA.)

I think a lot of it has to do with whatever it is be'n discarded and no longer a target.

I would assume that Moses' negate all SA would negate anything and everything... Including enhancements already being discarded. I would agree with what YMT said awhile back about cards "hanging" between the d/c pile and the FOP, that FoGW's discarding would be dependent on whether the ability was completed.
I'm sorry I crammed 11 cookies in the VCR.

That is what I thought. It is an issue b/c if the enhancement activates, and is then discarded, Moses can not negate it.

So the hero's ability happens first?

What if i put Highway on Zacceus... or Israelite Archer?

Could I search for an artifact, and then withdraw?

Could I discard an EC, and withdraw unharmed?

Highway: Hero may withdraw from battle unharmed. All enhancement cards played may be returned to the player's hand except this one.

Zacceus: Holder may search draw pile for one Fortress card. Shuffle draw pile. • Play As: Holder may search draw pile for one Fortress card and put it in play.

Archer: May band to any warrior class Hero. May discard any warrior class Evil Character in a territory but then discard Israelite Archer at end of battle.

Yes.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Hey,

To answer the original question Moses activates before the enhancement, so Moses would prevent Furnace of God's Wrath.

Moses only negates abilities on characters and enhancements that are in play.  So if Furnace activated (and was discarded) first then Moses would not negate it because it would not be in play to negate.  This is similar to the scenario of Ethiopian Treasurer using his ability to play great faith blocked by King of Tyrus.  King of Tyrus doesn't negate Great Faith because it's not in play.

What if i put Highway on ... Israelite Archer?

Could I discard an EC, and withdraw unharmed?

"Unharmed" on Highway means the character doesn't get discarded because it's losing the battle (or in mutual destruction).  It does not mean that the character isn't discarded by pending abilities.  So Israelite Archer would still kill itself after withdrawing.

Tschow,

Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly
