The way I read the card, it is just one EC in battle.

Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Purple • Ability: * / * • Class: None • Special Ability: Hero gains (*/*) to bring Hero to equal abilities (*/*) with Evil Character at this point in the battle. Hero gains first strike ability. • Errata: (Treat the first sentence of the special ability as an identifier.)

There is no plural, nor a mention of "all abilities", so it should only be able to use one EC's abilities at that point in battle, not the entire banding chain.  That's how I read it.

Ok so how do I determine which evil character I get the abilities of?

Based on the wording, it should be the choice of the player using the enhancement.  However, I am really not very sure on this, as I am not sure what exactly is being targeted.  Therefore, I'm not sure if it would be able to be used on an immune EC, for example.

This is a good example of a card with 'funky' wording.
