Off Brigade Weapons

I was just looking at my experimental deck, and I was wondering, King Ahaz allows all Brown Evil Characters to use OT evil enhancements regardless of brigade. If I were to play Two Thousand Horses on him during battle, would he be able to hold them after battle?

While they may play them, being able to hold them is a separate game rule and requires matching brigade by default.

So no.

That's what I thought, thanks.

Interesting question. I actually assume it would work. Here's why:

Quote from: REG > Weapon Class Enhancements
This is a special kind of enhancement marked by a shield icon on the left side of the card. Weapon- class enhancements may be held by warrior-class characters outside of battle, and may be placed on a warrior-class character during a player’s preparation or discard phases. The special ability on a weapon-class enhancement only activates in battle. Weapons follow the same rules as placed cards by following their bearers to any location in which they are moved. Weapon-class enhancements can also be played during battle using the rules of initiative.

Following battle resolution, when enhancements are normally discarded, a warrior-class character’s controller may decide to keep one weapon-class enhancement on the warrior-class character.

During battle Ahaz allows you to play the weapon on him legally. I think we all agree on that.

The bolded statement contains false information (let's fix it in the REG update!  :)). It says "Following battle resolution, when enhancements are normally discarded" but Enhancements are discarded as part of battle resolution, not afterwards.

A careful reading of the Battle Resolution section of the 10th Anniversary Rulebook (which should still be accurate on this topic) indicates that you first deal with the characters, then the Enhancements, then awards LS if one was won. Since you deal with the Enhancements during the second part, you'd choose to keep or discard the weapon then. At that time Ahaz can still legally keep 2KH.

The REG also mentions that "Weapons follow the same rules as placed cards by following their bearers to any location in which they are moved". Apart from playing a weapon, or keeping it at the end of battle, it's treated like a card that's placed or held. Placed or held cards don't have to match the brigade.

Really the REG should say that weapons can only be placed on a character of Matching Brigade during Prep and Discard Phase, since as it currently says, it would be easy to get mistaken, since you are "placing" not "playing" and "placing" doesn't necessarily require the brigades to match.

A careful reading of the Battle Resolution section of the 10th Anniversary Rulebook (which should still be accurate on this topic)...
also says:

Quote
A weapon-class enhancement can be held outside of battle by a warrior-class character of matching brigade.

There really isn't a 'complete' picture in the 4th edition, but the rules per the 10th also say that it must be matching outside of battle.

Unless it is changed in the REG (not opposed), I'd have to continue ruling that way.  Agree this is an interesting question, though.
