Concerning Card Sleeves

I got some card sleeves today that I've been wanting for a while. I was sleeving one of my decks in the sleeves, and I noticed that the tops of the cards were poking out a little. (And note, this are standard sized sleeves.) Is it okay to bring a deck like this to a tournament or will I have to get new sleeves?

If all the cards poke roughly the same amount then it should be fine. It's only if a certain card or cards are enough different that a judge thinks you might be able to know when those cards are coming that the sleeves would be ruled unusable. For example, the new I/J and Tin 26 cards are slightly smaller than normal size so they might poke out noticeably less, but if your deck is consistent in the amount visible then you should be okay. I'd double check with a judge before checking the deck at your next tournament, though, just in case.

Thank you very much! I was just concerned about the sleeves I just bought & I really wanted to use them. I think there are about 4 cards grand total that are the I/J sized cards.

It is under the tournament host discretion.
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

Unfortunately, if there is any discrepancy in how the cards appear from the back, I as a tournament host would have to rule them illegal. So if normal-sized cards poke out, but I/J sized cards do not, I would not allow those to be played. The recent run of the I/J/Tin 26 cards are normal-sized however, so I would ask around your playgroup to see if anyone has normal-sized copies of the cards you use, and trade for them. Alternatively, you could snip the tops of the cards you use in that deck, assuming you plan to keep that deck for awhile and don't intend to trade/sell the cards.

I'll have to buy a newer version of the starter, then. (Thanks for the head's up about that!)

Is there a way to know without opening the tin/starter if it's the improperly-sized first printing or the correct second printing? I'd like to acquire a set or two of the new printing but I don't have money to spend on buying sets until I find the one I need.
